In Memory of Oreo

There is an Indian legend which says:

"when a human dies, there is a bridge they must cross
to enter into heaven.  At the head of this bridge awaits every
animal the human encountered during their lifetime...
The animals, based upon what they know of this person, decide
which humans may cross the bridge...and which are turned away"....

Oreo's Story

Our rescue had been working to find Oreo a foster or adoptive home. Her family had adopted her as a puppy after dumping another dog. Like the first dog, when she became a young adult, she was not perfect enough for them.

Our volunteer who was working with the family had asked that they tell us prior to taking her to a shelter, if they got to the point that they were no longer willing to hold on to her.

Sadly, yesterday without telling anyone, they drove her to a shelter in the city. When they arrived, they were told that due to her breed, she was a pitbull mix, she would be euthanized immediately because the number of applicants in their area wanting pitbulls for bad purposes made adoption impossible even for this nice dog. Despite hearing this, Oreo's callous and heartless owner walked out and left this playful and loving girl to die.

Her owner said he believed that "God will provide". We are sincerely hopeful this is true in their case.

The reason she had to leave their home so quickly was that they were getting yet another dog.....

We are all very sad and a fund has been established in her name to provide emergency boarding for dogs we feel are in grave danger of being taken to a kill shelter. Please consider making a contribution to Oreo's Fund.

If you are interested in fostering or adopting a pup like Oreo, please consider helping another pup we've had come in named "Oreo", who is currently in need and also a wonderful dog.
